FIELD GUIDE / ABOUT

A lab for familiar things.

Calendar Systems Lab is an educational project by Beta Calendars. Its subject is the calendar as an information surface: the relationships between dates, columns, rules and writing space.

Purpose

The lab makes ordinary layout decisions explicit. Why does a month need six rows? What changes when Sunday moves to the first column? How much of a sheet remains after margins? Each chapter is a small, inspectable answer—not a promise of a new timekeeping system.

Scope and provenance

Beta Calendars is the project provenance. The explanations here are original educational material; the linked project and blank-calendar pages are external references. This site makes no claim of academic accreditation, institutional affiliation or historical discovery.

Conventions and limits

We use Gregorian civil dates, not astronomical time or timezone-dependent instants. Monday-first is the default, with alternatives clearly marked. The lab does not calculate religious calendars, public holidays, appointment times or printer-specific output.
